INJECTION MOLDING

Our injection molding solutions are specialized to produce prototypes and small series of plastic parts.
The RPM's injection molding process for the standard prototype tool involves an aluminum tool with no heating and cooling lines, and manually operated slides cores. The molders manually load the mold inserts and unload the parts from the mold. Cycle times are a little longer and the molders need to monitor the quality of the parts constantly. Our injection molding processes include plastic injection molding, insertmolding and overmolding.

PLASTIC INJECTION MOLDING

Plastic injection molding is a process through which a single plastic only part is created with thermoplastic resins. After pre-drying, the thermoplastic resins in an oven, they are then loaded into a hopper attached to an injection molding machine. Then they are melted and injected into an injection mold that is pre- assembled to injection molding machine. Once the plastic is cooled down it forms a plastic injection molding part.

INSERTMOLDING

Insert-molding is a process where often metal inserts are loaded into the plastic injection mold where they are then over-molded with a thermoplastic resin to create a final component. once the plastic is cooled down the metal inserts are then fully integrated with the plastic parts. There are many different types of inserts that can be placed into the injection mold. The metal bushings, electrical terminals and wires are few examples of them.

OVERMOLDING

Over-molding is a process through which a single part is created using two or more different materials in combinations. After the total number of substrate parts are pre-molded, overmold tool is assembled to the injection molding machine. The pre-molded substrate parts are placed into the mold where the final part is overmolded with a different thermoplastic resin. RPM has been providing complicated functional plastic injection molding, insertmolding and overmolding prototype parts to automotive, medical and consumer electronics industries. RPM also offers low volume production runs.
